Key West

Heading to the Keys… January 2017

Boyd's Key West Campground

Three nights in a very expensive (and crowded) RV park $$$ Boyd's Key West Campground.  Nice & clean with a laundry and a small store.  They also have a pool and lounge area that we didn't use.
Here we rented scooters for a day and had a ball!!!  We cruzed all over Key West.  Loved it so much we got up early the next day and rode some more before we had to turn them back in. Jim now will be on a quest for other "scooter towns".
We ate everywhere, coffee shops are our favorite - several times a day! The best pizza EVER can be found at Roostica!!  Another thing we will be on a quest for........

Fort Taylor

This is our beach!  Truly beautiful!

Bahia Honda State Park

Three nights at Bahia Honda State Park, we are much more state park campers than RV parkers, prices are better as are the size of the sites.  Although we are having a very hard time getting sites at state parks.  I guess everyone else would rather stay at a state park too.  It doesn't help that we don't plan very far in advance.
Always looking to go swimming!

Part of the original railroad that connected Miami to Key West in 1922.  After a hurricane in 1930's that destroyed many sections, it was converted into a highway which was abandoned and is now used as a bike path although sections of the bridges have been taken down to prevent passage.

Davie RV January 2017

Our 1st extended RV "campground", Davie KOA in Davie, Florida.  Not too bad but no privacy, wall to wall people/RV's.  Everyone seems to have a dog - or three or one rv had 6, that I could count. The KOA had clean bathrooms and a second story dinning area.

We met up with Mom and Kris on Tuesday and headed to Flamingo Gardens.  Took a tram ride and walked through the gardens.  There were tons of birds, a couple of alligators, bears, panthers and turtles.  Great place to learn the names of some of Florida's birds and shopping in the gift shop, of course. We also sat through a wildlife experience with an opossum, falcon, python.

We had a paining class at the resort and hung around the pool.

We are artists!

To the Everglades!  Mom wasn't feeling up to it so she stayed at the resort and we went and road an Airboat and meet the alligator whisperer!  Saw tons of gaters and birds!

Then had gater bites (really???) A bit tough, but taste like chicken!

Took a tram ride in the National Park!  At first I was sure we'd be disappointed and not see any alligators but no,....not at all!  We saw tons!

Around 1ish Jim got a phone call and then a text from a number we didn’t recognize.  They finally left a message and it was from the RV campground saying we were supposed to be checked out today at 1.  They didn’t sound very happy.  Jim called and said we were hours away and would be staying the night.  They indicated it would be an inconvenience to another camper but it would be ok.  I was working up to a confrontation but no need...  When we got back we stopped in and they were good with us staying. Time to relax!  Kris and Mom decided to stay at the airport hotel to help in the transfer to the airport early on Friday.  We are heading to Key West on Friday.
